[Xtreamer ultra] Stutter video with subtitle ? - Blue_sky - 09-28-2011

Hi,

I'm using Xtreamer-ultra with openelec (Used the OpenELEC-Ultra.x86_64-devel-20110913151346-r7878-vpeter and latest EDEN-ultra build)

I have micro stutter during playback when subtitles(Language:korean, Font: arial base, Type : SMI) appear on the screen.

Enable or disable VDPAU Whether the same occurs.., and 480p, 720p... same issue

However, if subtitle is disabled will play smoothly.

But, I've installed Win7 on my XT-Ultra and everything runs smooth on Windows version of XBMC Same files.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong..

Does the same problem with me? There's no answer .....

I found cause of Video-stutter with subtitle

There was a problem with Subtitle-Border-rendering (Non english-sub, chinese, korean etc...)

found topic -> http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=81613&page=28

However, I do not know how to apply.

This happen because of using problematic subtitle font. Try using different one (Trebuchet MS Bold).

I had same issue before, my machine is Acer revo 3700.
I had been tested xbmc livecd , xbmcfreak, and the problem still existed. Now I use openelec version.
I tested many version of openelec, following methods are tested with no stutter with Chinese subtitle and play smoothly.

1. .srt Chinese subtitle with specified openelec version: OpenELEC-ION.x86_64-devel-20110724-r7555 , I get it from http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/ but now there are the newer version only.

2. .ass Chinese subtitle with any openelec version, and I use Aegisub to convert subtitle file from .srt to .ass

I prefer to use the second one, hope these two methods can help you to solve the problem.

I don't use subtitles that's why I can't judge about this problem. But after suggestion of the Thehijacker from Xtreamer forum I add font Trebuchet MS Bold and those problems should not exist with it.
How can I reproduce this problem? Does it happen with every movie or only some? Give me exact instructions.

Re: [Xtreamer ultra] Stutter video with subtitle ? - Sam123 - 10-17-2011

The file size of "Trebuchet MS Bold.ttf" just 120KB only. I think it doesn't existed any DBCS chars (like: Chinese, Japanese, Korean...)
The size of official font file (arial.ttf) is more than 4MB.
If you use English subtitle and play with stutter issue, then maybe change the font file could be solved this problem (stutter).
But if you use Trebuchet font for Chinese/Japanese or Korean subtitle, then I think the subtitle cannot be displayed correctly.

Thank you fou your tip. Has been very helpful.

Re: [Xtreamer ultra] Stutter video with subtitle ? - ultraman - 10-18-2011

One temporary workaround would be to remount XBMC Fonts folder.

Try creating folder Fonts in /storage/.config (Configfiles) and put subtitle TTF fonts inside.
Then create/add into autostart.sh file in /storage/.config (Configfiles) with next lines:
Code:
SUBFONTS="/storage/.config/Fonts"
if [ -d "$SUBFONTS" ]; then
files=$(ls $SUBFONTS/*.[tT][tT][fF] 2>/dev/null | wc -l)
if [ "$files" = "0" ]; then
cp /usr/share/xbmc/media/Fonts/*.[tT][tT][fF] $SUBFONTS/
fi
mount --bind $SUBFONTS /usr/share/xbmc/media/Fonts/
fi
This will remount this folder to read-only system and you can select your personal font for subtitle.

hi,

many thanks. included in latest devel with a different path: /storage/.xbmc/userdata/fonts so its accessible via the Userdata share too
