OpenELEC running on HP Microserver plus DLNA server? - energized - 04-09-2012

As topic suggests, is it possible to install a DLNA service on an HP Microserver running openELEC?

the primary purpose of the OpenELEC OS is running XBMC, which is a DLNA media server and control point:

Thanks for the info. Not sure if I am misunderstanding a concept here. On the XBMC forum Ned from Team-XBMC says:

Quote:Why on earth do people even bother with XBMC if they are looking for an entirely different product (a SERVER)? If you want XBMC, use XBMC. If you want DLNA, use a DLNA server.link

XBMC/OpenELEC is a DLNA server? Or it isn't a DLNA server?

XBMC is a media player. It plays stuff onto your TV (primary function). It ALSO functions as a DLNA server though, should you want to stream your content to some other device.

Say I disable the DLNA service on XBMC/OpenELEC..

...Is it then possible to install a 3rd party DLNA service on an HP Microserver with openELEC? So I would then have both OpenELEC and a third party DLNA service running on an HP Microserver?

The DLNA standard covers 3-4 distinct roles and functions and the answer to that question (which is also kind of hinted at in the XBMC forum thread) depends on exactly which DLNA function you might want it to do?

I am able to stream video and audio files to the DLNA clients. I want to keep OpenELEC. I would like to also deliver playlists to DLNA clients. Is that possible with OpenELEC? Or with an OpenELEC add-on? Or maybe with a 3rd-party DLNA service to be added to my OpenELEC HP microserver?
