Sound Vanishes Switching Between XBMC and TV - MR.WaynesWorld - 05-19-2012

Just built and installed a Zbox AD04-U system. Running Beta 3 of Openelec. When I first boot up the box, with the TV switched to HDMI1 input, all works great... But if I switch input back to "Normal" TV and then back too HDMI1 input I have no sound what so ever...

Here is the output of aplay -l and -L:

I've tried setting the Audio Output in XBMC to Analog or HDMI with Audio Output Device set to either plughw:0,3 or HDMI (ALSA). All combinations work as long as I stay on the HDMI input for XBMC but as soon as I switch to regular TV input and back I have no sound.

Could this be an issue with the Beta 3 release? Is it possible that this will be resolved in the Beta 4 release?

Any help or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue in B3, I think its related to this issue:

Thanks... Yep samwe issue as that thread describes...

Was hoping for Beta 4 today but no sign of it. As a matter of fact the milestone page has been changed to RC1 and 14 days out... Wonder if Beta 4 will make an apperance today or not....

That's definitely an issue (together?) with fglrx 12.4.
As soon as I switch the HDMI source on the receiver (Denon 3312) between XBMC and any source, the driver will loose the HDMI sync.

Once you see the
Code:
[b][18023.732526] HDMI hot plug event: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0[/b]
[18023.732632] HDMI status: Codec=0 Pin=3 Presence_Detect=0 ELD_Valid=0
[94274.426524] EXT4-fs (sda1): re-mounted. Opts: barrier=1,data=ordered,commit=0
in dmesg, the only solution is to reboot or to cycle standby. Changes on HDMI will not be detected anymore (I changed the HDMI input of my Denon multiple times between the timestamp
[18023.732632] and [94274.426524]).

However, with fglrx 12.3 the problem doesn't show up.

So did you install this fglrx module? Sorry if I sound like I don't understand but I don't...

How do you get this module and how do you install it?

Interesting discovery this morning. Note, I have upgraded to the Beta 4 release and still have my sound issue when switching to and back to TV Input.

What I just did was to switch to the TV input and then back to the HDMI 1 input. No Sound. But I went over to the TV and pulled the HDMI cable from the TV that the OpenELEC machine is conneted too. Plugged it back in and BAM I had sound again.

Still would like to get this resolved.....

Try to press mute on/off on tv remote and report here if sound comes back. Might be a tv set problem.

Re: Sound Vanishes Switching Between XBMC and TV - Ommand - 05-20-2012

I'm experiencing the same issue, if I change the input on the tv I lose hdmi audio. The only ways I've been able to get audio back were to reboot or to reconnect the hdmi.

Adjusting/muting the volume on the tv remote do not accomplish anything.

@MR.WaynesWorld
I build XBMC myself - so I simply changed the package version in the build system.

XBMC is running since 24hrs now - with various switches between different sources on Denon,
without any outage. It also survives a complete off/on of the Denon without loosing connection.

IMHO your plug/unplug cable points to an HDMI sync problem of fglrx 12.4
