Libraries, and removable storage? - PerfectBlue - 07-21-2012

How does Openelec handle library items that are on removable storage when said storage is removed?

For example, if I index (add thumbnails, and movies details, etc) that are stored on a USB disc or on a network share, and then disconnect the USB or switch the network share off?

Does Openelec simply ignore the fact that the media source is not there until you try to play it, or does it complain and bring up error messages ake longer to boot while it tries to connect?

I'm asking as I'm considering archiving off some of my content (things that I've seenam bored with) to make room for other content. I'd like to have it in my media library, but it will be on a NAS that I will only be connecting when I'm actually using it (for various reasons).

the only time you would have an issue with your video source (NAS) not being active is if you were to 'clean' the library. if the source is not active, then everything that's been cataloged from there will be wiped.

ive always thought we should have the option to set certain sources as locked, or ignored when we do a cleaning, for this very reason. its a major annoyance.

I find there is an additional inconvenience (or at least one I haven't been able to solve)

If the media catalog contains ALL media but some of it is in storage devices which are NOT ACTIVE at the moment, there is not simple way of knowing in which storage device that specific movie/tv show was stored in.
