ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - pita_lbc - 07-23-2012

Hello, I have ION custom HTPC. I have just bought new soundcard ASUS Xonar DSX with CMI chip, where I wan to use just analog stereo output. The XBMC doesn't recognize this new soundcard:

03:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio]

I have onboard Realtek sound card, but I bought the ASUS, because of better sound (it has swappable OpAmp).

When I list sound devices I see only onborad Realtek:

root ~ # aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital]

Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: NVidia [HDA NVidia], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I am newbie to Linux, and I don't know how to make it working. I found some informations about patches and virtuoso driver:

OK, according to information I found, it is not supported by Kernel Sad It has the same chip like PCI version DS, but it is not listed in drivers PCI IDs :S

Check out this linux mint post that i've made about it: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=111625

Re: ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - pita_lbc - 09-21-2012

Thank you, I will try. And I will need to ask Openelec people to integrate this fix Smile

ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - lrusak - 09-21-2012

You could always try a frodo build as they are using linux kernel 3.5.x

Re: ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - pita_lbc - 09-26-2012

I have tested Frodo builds. Problem is, that it is not supported even in ALSA:

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Vendor-Asus

Only cheaper version DGX is supported Sad

Only workaround is mentioned above, but I don't have such a skills to build my own build Sad

Re: ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - pita_lbc - 09-27-2012

It is necessary to apply this fix:

This patch adds support for ASUS - Xonar DSX sound cards. Tested on openSUSE 12.2 with kernel:
Linux 3.4.6-2.10-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 26 09:36:26 UTC 2012 (641c197) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Works:
- play sounds
- adjust volume on master channel.
- mute .

Since Xonar DS uses the same chip, everything that works for DS should work for DSX as well.

Thank you,
Sergiu Giurgiu.

Re: ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - pita_lbc - 10-12-2012

OK, thank people from Unofficial Frodo Builds. They have applied this patch, so the sound card is working there:

http://openelec.tv/forum/20-development-discussion/37953-unofficial-openelec-frodo-general-issue-reports

It would be great to import this patch to RC Eden builds. Frodo is great, but has quite a lot of small problems :o(

Thank you sooo much

Have a nice day

Pita

Re: ASUS Xonar DSX soundcard not working - pita_lbc - 11-29-2012

This sound card should be compatible with ALSA according to manufacturer specification. Please paste informations from your system (run these commands from console):

lspci -v

and

aplay -l

Have a nice day
