OpenELEC 2.0 beta 5, Do not see HDD in "Videos" - vanman - 08-13-2012

Zotac ION ITX A motherboard
Sony Bravia LCD HD TV
Sound through HDMI
Having to use fix to get sound.

Issue as follows

I plug in a USB HDD. Message comes up that it is mounted (LG 1TB)
I select "Music". It shows LG 1TB in the list.
I select "Pictures". It shows LG 1TB in the list.
I select "Videos". It does not show in the list.

OK, so select "Add source". A whole list comes up. Only thing that does not show is "LG 1TB"
Luckily I can navigate to the correct folder (/var/media). No problem for me.

Unfortunately my wife is quite cyber-challenged. She will not be able to watch movies from a USB hard-drive. One of the main reasons I got OpenELEC is for the wife to watch movies from the couch. OpenELEC 1 was simple; plug and play. Having to to navigate through folders just to get to a harddrive sort of defeats the object.

Last version I tested was beta 5. I do not want to re-instal over my existing instalation again to test until the issue is fixed.

Am I the only person with this problem? Can it be fixed? I am away from home for long periods at a time (2 - 4 months) so I cannot "add source" everytime the wife wants to watch movies.

BTW, I still find it difficult to understand why the ZOTAC-sound-over-HDMI issue cannot be fixed on installation. There are seperate downloads for the ION motherboards.

once you add your video source you need to open the context menu and select "set content" then set it to movies or tv shows.

This will scan your videos into your library so they can be reached without navigating subfolders.

You may want to read the XBMC manual
