Sharing AFP and NFS on openelec - nmarlor - 08-18-2012

I want to setup an all in one solution for openelec. This will need to be able to share folder from the openelec box via cifs, nfs and afp. I have upgraded to beta 6 (which solved a lot of problems except a sleep issue) and have been able to play with the samba.conf share for cifs which works fine.

Is there a way I am able to share a local folder using AFP or NFS? AFP would be great so it can be used as a timemachine backup for my girlfriend mac laptop. Has anyone though of creating a plugin for this (or for ZFS??) I have no skills to be able to do this myself and don't even know if it is possible.

Thanks

There are no AFP or NFS servers in the OS and there is no intention from the core dev team to add them as Mac's (and all other known OS types) talk happily to SAMBA shares. Either could be added via a plugin and you're not the first person to think about the idea, but action speaks louder than words and so far nobody was bothered enough to code anything. If you want "it can be everything" support you're better off using one of the Ubuntu derivative Linux's where you can add whatever you need with a few simple commands.

why would you want this in openelec? use a dedicated server OS such as freenas for these functions

Thanks for the responses.

I have a small openelec HTPC with an ESXi hosted fileserver as the backend at my house. The "all in one" solution is for my girlfriends house, something small, uses as little power as possible and can backup her osx laptop. I wouldn't want to setup more then one box there.

As I don't have the skills to write the plugins, and I don't really want to maintain a full install of ubuntu, I might opt for openelec but a different backup solution for the mac which can use CIFS. At least it will run xbmc, sabnzbd, couchpotato and sickbeard! :cheer:
