No Internet on Raspberry Pi Running OpenElec - SimonSpooner - 02-28-2013

Hi,

I am a first time Raspberry Pi user (however I have quite a bit of experience in linux (Ubuntu, Mint etc.)) I installed OpenELEC 2.99.3 on an SD card (from my Ubuntu Machine to use in the Pi)

The system booted up fine, however there is no network connection (Wired Connection)
In the network information section I have the following:

Link: Connected
MAC Address: left this out for convenience
IP Address: 169.254.188.164
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Gateway: [blank]
Primary DNS: 127.0.0.1
Secondary DNS: [blank]
Internet: Not connected. Check Network Settings

My router (Netgear N300/DGN2200) does not show the device in the list of attached devices.
My router operates on 192.168.0.XXX for DCHP, and is set to assign addresses automatically.
The cable works as it is connected to a microserver in the same room at the moment, which works fine.

Seems to be a DHCP error. I have googled the error and found a number of pages, which generally have one or two posts, but no solutions:

No connection to the internet (169.254.x.x)

Any help in getting this sorted will be appreciated.

Try...

Gateway : 192.168.0.1 (assumed)
Primary DNS : 8.8.8.8 - aka Google
Secondary DNS : 8.8.4.4 - aka Google

Also consider setting a static IP address.

Quote:IP Address: 169.254.188.164

That won't work with your router IP range

LIke previous post suggests, try static IP 192.168.0.XXX, and subnet 255,255,255,0');

Is it a specific DHCP error you are searching for, or just DHCP error, with no further information?

Most DHCP issues turn out to be PEBKAC

Hi Simon,

I had the same problem till now.

Try to activate the eth1 Network interface in the "Network 2" Tab inside the OE-Seetings, reboot ... and now Its working for me.
