Review: Cheap Celeron 1037U Mini PC (IN-1037UA) - 0ldfart - 03-11-2014

BIOS seems to be stuck on "secure boot" now, which is driving me nuts. Cant seem to get the setting to shift. Every time I select "disabled" it refuses to activate so cant boot to anything. Cant install new bios because no setting inside bios to load from USB - has to be done with bootable USB.

Anyone got any ideas how I can switch secure boot off ?

Isn't the secure boot also depending on other settings?
And returning it on warranty is not an option either?

Quite possibly dependent on other settings but I have just spent 2 hours trying everythnig that looks like relates to it, resetting to defaults, back and forth and pretty much ready to take it out the front and play frisbee with it now.

Not overly keen to pay the $40 postage and wait 4 weeks or so back and forth to China, hence the post here to try and sort it out myself if possble.

I'm not sure if there are "legal" HI10P rips and will "legal" link make actual content legal, but here you are "Dennou Coil" rip @ BakaBT, which doesn't allow anime rips, licensed in US. If something is on BakaBT, it won't have legal claims.

And what about questions N3 and N4?

So can anyone confirm that C1037U-based miniPC can bitstream audio as it is over HDMI?

Got this mini PC last week, installed OpenELEC 4 Beta 2 during weekend.
First impressions are quite good - navigation in movie library is fast (well, I found Confluence litle quite slow, so I changed to Amber and it is OK), movie playback without major issues - fact is GPU does not support 23.976, it uses 23.98 instead which means dropped frame every 4 minutes or so (I didn't notice it while watching movie).
FLIRC works without any problem as well.
Just need to fix the grayscale as explained here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=176718&pid=1566417#pid1566417

Hello,

Long time reader, first time poster. Smile

I picked up the dual LAN / USB 3.0 version of this box ( http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-NEW-Intel-Celeron-C1037U-aluminum-fanless-dual-core-living-room-HTPC-Barebone-Mini-PC-with/1638834276.html ) a couple of weeks ago, and received it today.

The motherboard is a GHM7X 2L4C Ver. B. BIOS is G2L4C 1.06 x64. Interestingly enough, this version is from 3/5/2014, so either the board was very recently manufactured, or they updated the BIOS before shipping it out. If anyone wants a copy, I'll be happy to try to extract it. Smile

The question I have is this -- Is there a way to enable "USB Charging" (i.e. keep USB ports turned on when the computer is in S5 / power off state)? I'd like to use a Yaocoo internal IR receiver to power the box on remotely, and there's obviously no +5VSB power supply pin to tap into.

Alternately, is there an always-on +5v somewhere on the motherboard?

Thanks in advance!

Got the same unit as the OP just last week, put in 2gb ram and a 30gb msata drive and away we go! WAAYYY Faster then my RPI, I dual booted windows 8.1 and openelec and it runs great! Windows partition is a bit small and ran out of space when I initially tried to install office on it, but I have since remedied that by disabling many options and I plan to shrink it down more by removing other items. Runs great, had to set my resolution right for my monitor and enable wait for lan for mysql to connect properly. I opted for not getting the COM port and instead of a com port it has a blue intel sticker over the com port hole...

Yes, it bitstreams just fine. I have mine hooked to a Emotiva UMC-1 and it decodes everything directly.
