HD AUDIO AMD GPU's now available - crystalgipsy - 10-19-2013

Thought I'd start a thread on this to see how people are getting on now that HD audio is possible with AMD gpu. I tired using the The Dark Knight Rises and so far it seems to be working ok although when you stop a movie the audio seems carry on in a feedback loop for a few seconds before stopping so its still going when the menu to XBMC returns. Apart from that it seemed smooth at playback and sounded pretty awesome.

Doesn't work for me Sad

I was excited to hear that I can now use audio pass-through with AMD GPU, but I can't make it work with my PC.

I've installed the latest OpenELEC version (3.2.3), on my Asrock VisionX (with AMD 7850M GPU).
When I tried to change the audio setting, OpenELEC doesn't save my selection, and goes back to the initial settings.

I can see few option in the Audio out device:

1. Default (HDA ATI HDMI HDMI 0)
2. HDA ATI, PIO SC-LX81 - Seems like the right option, since OpenELEC recognize my receiver - Pioneer SC-LX81
3. HDA Intel PCH, ID 899 Digital S/PDIF
4. HDA Intel PCH, ID 899 Analog

And few options in the Passthrough output device:

1. HDA Intel PCH, ID 899 Digital S/PDIF
2. HDA ATI, PIO SC-LX81 - again, seems like the right option, since OpenELEC recognize my receiver - Pioneer SC-LX81

I'm getting no sound at all, not even menu sounds.

I can play audio test file from the CLI using the command:

aplay -D plughw:1,3 /path/to/your/Front_Center.wav

Any ideas?...

I'm running on a Richland APU (A10-6700) , and an ASRock FM2A85X-ITX. I've had issues with OpenELEC for the past couple of weeks.

First, I was stuck at the splash screen for 3.2.1. And now after downloading multiple builds (generic, fusion, OSS) for 3.2.3, only the OSS build allows me past the splash. Regardless, I cannot seem to calibrate my system to play GUI sounds or music or audio from video sources.

I've opened a SSH session and tooled around with 'aplay -l' and gone on to adjust /storage/.config/asound.conf as suggested at http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Config_sound_menusound, however, still no sound.

I'll be following this thread hoping someone finds a solution.

One of the pleasant side effects of HD audio, is het ability to play 96 kHz 24 bit flac via HDMI. Combined with a (proper) dual audio configuration (HDMi & SPDIF fiber) now the SPDIF is sending a proper 96 kHz signal. Thank you very much!!!!!

Well its not all good I've been experiencing sloppy audio sync now on dd and DTS material. Anybody else noticing this? I cant seem to get it perfect. Its ok for a while then it drifts in and out. Looking at the output using o there is no sign of it slipping but I can see it.

the audio drift problem is known,
there are already patches concerning this problem by amd developer Alex Deucher

http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/dri-devel/2013-October/047583.html
will be integrated in future kernel releases and so in OE I hope!

Hmm will have to roll back until this is sorted as its driving me nuts. Is there a way to get 3.2.2 as I no longer have a copy of it.

Those patches are in no way relevant to OpenELEC 3.2 series, as here fglrx is used. These patches address Evergreen OSS HDMI Video implementation.

For master, which is fglrx free, we already have those patches included for longer - see here:
The real fix for HD Audio on OSS implementation just came 10 minutes ago via E-Mail.

seo just pushed it to master.

HD AUDIO AMD GPU's now available - crystalgipsy - 10-29-2013

So will this be released in 3.2.4? or can we get it now?

HD AUDIO AMD GPU's now available - fritsch - 10-29-2013

????

HD Audio is in since 3.2.3

This patch you are referring to was not for fglrx at all. OE 3.2.3 ships the damn blob, nothing can be done and nothing will be changed.
