Install tuner card in server? - juliusjj25 - 09-27-2014

Is it possible to install a TV Tuner card in a Windows based computer (Server 2008 R2) and access the stream through OpenELEC HTPCs? I've looked at the HDHomeRun but I would prefer to have a tuner installed in an open slot on my server if possible. Does anyone know if this works and if so how to set it up?

Look in the PVR section of the xbmc wiki.');

Can someone explain the IR Blaster to me? Do I need to have an IR sensor running from the server in front of the HTPC? Specifically I am looking at the Hauppauge HVR-2250.

This is basically what I am wanting:

TV Tuner in the server running something like NextPVR and the HTPCs access it through the Add-on and control channels from add-on. Is that how it works or do the channels have to be changed via remote on the server running it? I don't really want to run an IR sensor from my server over to my HTPC, especially since on is on a separate floor quite a ways away.

Sorry for the potentially dumb questions this is a new adventure for me. It would be nice to give my HTPCs the full workload instead of using the TV to flip through the OTA signals.

No you don't need an IR Blaster. The PVR setups described in the wiki do exactly what you want.
