External 4-bay USB hard drive not found - Wag - 01-16-2015

This is my first OpenElec install and I know nothing about Linux so be gentle. I'm installing on a Zotac ci320 mini PC. Everything went well during the install, I installed to the internal SSD. During the install it saw all 3 drives in the USB bay, so no problems there. The XBMC explorer sees all my other drives, flash drives, eSATA Blu-Ray drive, just not the USB hard drive bay. I tried changing USB ports, cables, reinstalling OpenElec, pretty much everything, same problem.

I'd appreciate a little help. As I said I'm a newbie to OpenElec and Linux so I'm pretty clueless as to what I'm doing. The drives are in the JBOD config, all NTFS and loaded with media so reformatting is NOT an option.

Thanks.

Probably not supported. Why would you JBOD with NTFS?

Please SSH into your machine and post the output to the following command
Code:
journalctl -b 0 --no-pager | paste

I think I made a mistake. I didn't think I was clear on what JBOD is. I have a Mediasonic 4-Bay USB 3.0/eSata drive bay. It is not RAID. I confused JBOD and what non-RAID drive bays are. I have the drive bay set up in the default config. I just put each drive in there and they all read as separate drives.. They read fine by my other android media box and my Windows PC.

Either way, please just post the log.

Here you go. Thanks again.

From what I can make out it looks like OpenElec/XBMC sees the 3 USB drives in the bay, it's just not mounting them. But as I said, I'm a newbie to this Linux stuff.Smile

after a little "cat log | grep udevil | sort" action the problem is quite clear:

Windows blindly mounts filesystems with flagged problems in the hope that everything goes okay, but Linux validates first and will refuse to mount filesystems that are flagged with issues to prevent damage. It's probably just unclean mounting, i.e. nobody ever right-clicks the little system-tray icon to eject the device before physically unplugging USB drives. Go run chkdsk.exe under Windows and then eject them properly, then all being well they should mount happy under Linux.

Thanks, it works. Just as long I eject them every time before I switch over (I'm using them on eSata on my PC) I'm fine. I have to use a program called Zentimo Storage Mgr because there's no other way I've found to eject a eSata device that doesn't have that support in the drivers.
