Newbie : Starting from Scratch, Advice Appreciated - Ronof9 - 07-18-2016

Hi Everyone, Would like to say a nervous hello and hope I am not asking the daftest of questions (as per usual)
Considering buying the following £150 box - Intel®NUC Intel Core i5 vPro with 4GB Memory and Kingston 120GB SSD
• 5th generation Intel® Core™ i5-5300U vPro™ processor
• Intel® HD Graphics 5500
• Discrete Trusted Platform Module (TPM 2.0)
• Internal DC power header (12V - 24V)
• Two DDR3L SO-DIMM sockets (up to 16 GB, 1333/1600 MHz)
• 2x Internal USB 2.0 ports via 1x8 header (for replaceable lid support)
• Storage support for M.2 SSD card and 2.5" HDD/SSD
• M.2 22x30 slot and wireless antennas pre-assembled (for wireless card support)
• eDP connector
• Support for user-replaceable third-party lids
• Intel® HD Audio via Mini DisplayPort* and Headphone/Microphone jack
• 2x USB 3.0 ports on the front panel
• Two Mini DisplayPorts version 1.2 supporting 8 channel digital audio (7.1 surround sound)
• 2x USB 3.0 ports on the back panel
• Intel® Gigabit LAN
• Back panel serial port expandability (requires 3rd party serial cable)
• Backpanel DC power connector (12V - 19V)
• Kensington lock support
Would this be ok/powerful enough if hooked up to my BT Hub5 Router (12Mbps d/l) via Ethernet, for streaming to my 6yr old Panasonic HDTV
Would appreciate what the best course of action is, starting from scratch.
Much Appreciated. Huh

The NUC is totally over sized. A Raspberry PI 3 would be more than enough. Your download speed might be a little bit low depending on what you want to do with it.

Thanks for advice.

These Chinese Android boxes are junk. Maybe good specs on paper but in operation they are unreliable, poorly made, no firmware support etc. If you buy this £30 box, next month they will have a new one and totally forget about this one, no more updates etc.

Buy a NUC or similar x86 box. I don't recommend Rasperry Pi for ordinary Kodi users, only for technically inclined who enjoy tinkering around and fixing stuff.

Or see this list for more suggestions. Nvidia Shield is popular for Kodi right now, it will give you Netflix etc also.

Otherwise wait for the Intel NUCs coming in late 2016. Nvidia Shield also very good.
