Increase the speed of CPU fan - emmanuelantony2000 - 10-01-2017

I am having a Compaq Presario CQ40 having a Pentium dual core processor running at a max of 2.2 GHz. The main problem is that even when the system is left idle the processor is running at 65°C to 80°C. The processor is only being used 1% to 10%. And the first core seldom runs. I tried to change the location of the laptop and do other positional stuff and at last came to know that the fan is not ramping up. It is running at the lowest speed possible. I want to put the fan at max speed as I plan to keep this PC switched on 24x7. I don't care about the noise of the fan. I need help.

First, be sure you have the 'latest' version of the BIOS firmware installed...

Then, go to page 87 of the maintenance and service guide at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01714937.pdf

You might focus on the "CPU sleep states' and the 'fan always on' options..

BUT, rather than using a 'laptop' for your media portal, you can get one of them 'laptop in a desktop' models from Compaq/HP (i.e. the 8300 USFF or 6005 USDT) which provide more horsepower, cooling, and attractiveness, while still using a laptop power-supply... (135watt)

I tried what you have said but there was no update for the bios. There was an option to keep the fan on in bios and it was enabled. The main problem is that I want to increase the speed of the fan. And one more thing. When I entered the bios after using openelec for a while and the cpu was hot then the fan was running at max and I knew due to the noise it made. But when I exited it and went back to openelec then automatically the fan speed reduced and was again running at a low speed and the noise also reduced. The thing that I am asking is that is there some code or command to ramp up the fan because when I was in ubuntu then I could easily do it through the terminal, same laptop. Thanks in advance.
