1) Ubranded Vista MCE remote.


I got this on ebay. I believe the model is VCR-1100. I have seen a similar looking remote with Hama logo on it.

My one came with the little red IR receiver as shown in the pic.

This remote feels okay, the quality is fine, the buttons feel okay, it is very responsive, all the important functions (for me) work out of the box with OpenElec. This is my favourite remote so far.

2) Unbranded RC6 Remote. The stick inside the battery compartment says RC1534526/00. It came with a circular Dell-braded IR receiver.


All the buttons work okay out of the box but this remote is not very responsive. Scrolling through a list is slower than VCR-1100. Also if you are scrolling through a list with the button held down, sometimes it just cuts out and stops scrolling.

I don't recommend this remote very highly.

3) Emprex 3009 ARF III

This a radio remote rather than IR.
It is the worst remote I have used, the range is very short, it is unresponsive, misses half the keypresses. The receiver broke after less than a year, despite being just sat on a shelf and never touched or moved. I am glad it broke because it was useless anyway.

Avoid this remote.

This device works openelec directly without having to configure anything or you need to change any configuration file, run all the functions of the device?

Yes, everything important works, just plug it in. Up/down/left/right play/pause/etc...info...context.. power.. the green 'start' button brings up the control overlay during playback. I don't know if every single function works, but certainly everything that I need.

No configuration or special options needed.

#1 is very good, good response, good range, everything. The dongle is small so you can stick it somewhere with blu-tac if you want. and you can get it for about €10-15 on ebay

#2 is okay...everything works no problem, just not as responsive as #2

FYI option 1 is notoriously crap. The only reason it works is devs here, linux and XBMC land have done some serious work to compensate for its crapness.

I wouldn't recommend this remote at all since it is really a proper remote but a fake keyboard and mouse.

Yes it works but thats not a measure of how good it is or how it works behind the scenes.

Option 2 is FAR superior and likely just needs a small config tweak to deal with scroll
