remote access to XMBC interface

Hi,

I am new to XMBC and would really like to get it to work as I am sick of windows. I've installed it on a USB Key for a trial and can connect to the internet and I also have ssh access from another pc on my home network. However I would really like to access the XBMC screen remotely so I can configure it. Os there any way to do this.... I've enabled http access to XBMC in the native client on the PC it's installed on and tried to access the IP address via port 80 but get nothing. Any ideas?

NO joy.. I"ve tried 192.168.1.154:80 and 8080.... I don't anything on 8080 and on 80 O get a screen with XMBC media centre with a couple of icons to top right... but nothign else... I've tried changing the web interface in XBMC and have successfully downloaded the alternatives and see them when I connect to port 80 but nothing allows be to control the Openelec box in the same way as using the interface on the box its installed. I can ssh into it and create directories via putty but cannot get to the native interface.

I also cannot get to any other Upnp NAS server (twonky) via the add source menu item, it will not browse samba drives or windows drives.... to be honest i am getting pretty frustrated with it. AS soon as I boot the same pc back up in windows I can see all the other drives, devices without a problem, all the ip addresses remain the same. I keep getting "Cannot read the directory structure"

In XBMC terminology "web interface" is a media browser that allows you to browse and select media and play it. There is no web equivalent to the normal GUI you see on-screen and configure things in. In older versions of XBMC you could add sources, but I believe this has been (sensibly) junked in Eden in favour of having a better media browser. There is also a virtual remote control in the web-browser GUI that can be used to control the user interface on-screen, but this is not a full-blown configuration tool.

If you want to add SMB sources the easy way (without browsing) edit /storage/.xbmc/userdata/sources.xml, i.e.

Adding UPNP shares should be similarly easy, the syntax is described in the XBMC wiki manual
