AD10 Setup Issues

Hi All,

Installed OpenElec on Zotac AD10-E. All working well except:

1. Wifi
2. Menu Sounds

Wifi:
Have set up everything on the OpenElec settings, keeping only the Static IP blank (since using DHCP). No matter what I do, it doesn't connect. When using ethernet cable, everything works fine, and the device is assigned an IP address. My router is a Beetel 450TC1 and it doesn't support 802.11n. Could that be the issue? Is there anything else I can do to resolve this?

Menu Sounds:
I tried SSHing into the system. I don't have an asound.conf file. So, I create one, but when I try to edit it using nano, it says command doesn't exist or not recognized. I log in using root/openelec. What could be the problem?

I had some of the same issues with my AD02. Though it has a slightly different hardware configuration.

Have you tried using the latest release (Beta2), that resolved some of the issues that I was having with network connectivity.

I don't think that Nano is included with Openelec by default. At least it wasn't when I did my last clean install. It had to be installed as a plugin after you've booted the device. I think that it's installed from the programs add-in menu.

It may be easier for you to open the Config file from the Windows share, and to edit it with wordpad. That way you won't need to worry about installing Nano, or which permission levels you use, as Samba sorts most of that out for you. Though I know a certain user who swears by PuttySSH who will probably not be happy about me giving you that bit of advise.

Here is a copy of my old config file from a Pre-Beta2 install on my AD02:

I connected to an external AMP using HDMI. So you might want to change your settings if you connect differently.

Delete the # in front of which ever output source you are using, and put a # in front of the ones that you aren't.

Try it with and without an # in front of the rate to see which is best for you.

Thanks. That fixed the menu sounds (without the rate line). Now, if I could just figure out a way to fix the wifi...

I'm glad that you got the menu sound. That foxed me for a bit, too. I was confused by the fact that I was able to get sound everywhere else, but not on the menus.

I cannot really help with the wifi as I think that the AD02 has different hardware.

If you are able to connect to SSH, try running the following commands:

cat /var/log/messages | paste
lspci | paste
ifconfig | paste

This should give you your log files.

They will help somebody else to tell you what your problem is.

Resolved!

It seems by old router/modem (Beetel 450TC1) was the problem. Changed it to D-Link and it just worked.

Another change: configured wifi on the Network 2 tab, and LAN on Network 1. Don't know if that's important.
