Clone a system possible?

Hello all,

I've a zotac zbox ad10 setup with openelec, dit some tweaks and it is running fine. Now a friend of mine wants the same. So i ordered the same system.

My question is, is it possible to make an image or something that i can install on that system so i do not have to do all the tweaks on the new system?

what i do:
from the working oe: copy folders userdata and configfiles
build new machine

boot initial
ssh to new machine
touch /var/lock/xbmc.disabled
killall -9 xbmc.bin

copy the userdata and configfiles to the new machine
rm /var/lock/xbmc.disabled

if you feel comfortable you could always use the dd command on another machine.

I would recommend booting a gparted live cd and making a clone of the disk.

If you're scared of dd (and you should be if you haven't used it before ) there is a great Windows raw copy tool over at:

I have used it for USB to SATA, USB to SD Card and USB to USB for example, and it hasn't missed a beat. Is nice and fast too, usually maxing out the speed of the medium that it is writing to.

It is installable to a USB and has fsarchiver (by the same guy who did ddrescue):

It can create compressed archives of partitions on-the-fly and can restore to different sized partitions.

I am desperately trying to clone my sd card, spent ages getting it the way i like it but now i get a mount error when trying to reboot the new card. Driving me mad!!!!

Would clonezilla rectify the problem for me? Will all my settings remain the same? Can i use it for Mac?

I have used clonezilla with good success to copy from one sd card to a new one and to an hdd. I use it for the regular backup from my hdd into an image on my large usb drive.

The easiest way to use clonezilla directly on the htpc is to use uunetin to create a bootable usb stick. Uunetin can automatically download clonezilla or parted magic and unpack it on a fat32-formatted stick. This way, you don't need to use your mac at all :-)
