Also because I just played a blu ray with DTS HD MA, and there was no message also, but checked every setting in the PS3 that it was sending all info to the receiver.
I don't think XBMC is passing through the bit perfect HD stream, that is something the Audio Engine update is meant to rectify.
If XBMC were passing through bit perfect audio data then my Onkyo amp would be displaying the correct audio format title for HD formats, just as the C-200 is able to make it do.
I did think it may just be a cosmetic issue, that the title on the amp is wrong even though the audio being received by the amp is DD TruHD or DTS HD MA, but since the amp shows only "DTS" for DTS HD MA I'd have to say that XBMC is passing through only DTS Core even though the amp is capable of accepting DTS HD MA. Which means I have little faith that DD TruHD is being handled correctly either, although XBMC may be passing multi-channel (L)PCM.
All in all this is why I assumed XBMC in it's current state wasn't able to support HD audio formats, and why the Audio Engine is under development in order to fix all of these problems.
