Access serial port / power on projector

Hi,

my projector Infocus IN3118HD supports power-on via LAN and serial com port.
The LAN-power-on way consumes more power in standby mode, so I would prefer the serial port.

Is there a way to access the serial port via OpenElec? (even if it would be connected as USB-to-serial adapter?)

Openelec recognizes the USB to RS232 adapter automatically, the data can be seen via dmesg.
