Netgear WNDA3200 poor performance past v2.99.5

Hi I have a Netgear WNDA3200 5GHz wireless USB adapter for my 2nd Openelec system a Revo 3700 Ion based Nettop. It worked flawlessly until the final release candidate of Frodo and for every version afterwards it has very poor performance. I switched back to 2.99.5 to see if it was faulty but it performs as expected on this version and I can stream any 1080p material easily. As soon as I update past this build I cannot stream a single 1080p file as i get buffering after a minute and 720p can suffer as well. What has changed since 2.99.5 ? Driver update? I choose this model of adapter as its recommended on this site. Any help here appreciated.

There are 2009 changes between 2.99.5 and 3.17 according to https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/....5...3.1.7 ..but the WNDA3200 uses the ath9k driver from the Linux kernel. OpenELEC didn't change anything, but things may have been tweaked upstream. You might want to experiment with advancedsettings.xml and the network <readbufferfactor>4.0</readbufferfactor> setting. This was added in 3.1.6 and should help by increasing (or allowing you to change) the size of the buffer used by XBMC when streaming.

This does not work. In fact made things worse the higher or lower I set it from the default 4.0.

Bumping this as I have had no luck in getting this to improve. I am thinking this must be driver change from one version to the next as even ssh in to the machine on any version above 2.99.5 is very slow to respond.

I really want to upgrade this to the latest build to keep in sync with my main system,
