Issue Upgrading from 3.2.4 to 4.0.0

Hello,

I am following the wiki instructions to upgrade from 3.2.4 to 4.0.0

I have got to the point of performing the soft reset after backing everything up to /storage at which point the system reboots. I then get the following error...

Error in mount_storage: mount_part: Unknown filesystem FILE=STORAGE

The drive is a USB stick in a Intel NUC. All has work perfectly before. I have tried overwriting the system and kernal files back to 3.2.4 and it boot again.

Any ideas what the issue could be with generic 386 version of 4.0.0?

Basic crux of the issue seems to be that following the change to the 4.0.0 system & kernal files the boot process can not read the existing storage file.

Any ideas?

Do you have a backup of STORAGE?

If so, I'd just start over with a completely new install, and copy the STORAGE over afterward.

If you did not back it up prior to upgrade, then maybe you have a tougher road. You could do a new install on another flash drive, start openelec, and see if you can plug the old flash drive in and access the STORAGE folder content that way via file manager.

IF Storage got corrupted, then you may be SOL.

I have a back up which I ran from the settings menu, but as per the instructions that is located in /storage/downloads as per the wiki instructions.

Strange thing is that if I system & kernel files with the 3.2.4 versions and reboot, all is fine, back to all the old settings and the libraries are all ok.

I'm going to try and take a backup of the whole stick and a separate backup of storage, then start from fresh and see if I can overwrite the storage file.

Not an easy route to upgrade, pretty pants really.

I keep my settings on manual upgrade. When its time to upgrade, I make a backup image of the usb drive & store it on a PC using HDD Raw Copy, then I start up OE and change settings to automatic upgrade, reboot, let it download, reboot again for the upgrade to take effect, then set it back to manual upgrade. It seems easiest and safest for me. I had issues with one upgrade and just re-imaged to the backup & waited till a few bugfixes got into the next update.

A backup file stored on the same disk that you are backing up is not a valid backup. Move it off-box.
