How to play MOD extension files

I have several video files with the extension MOD, and my raspberrymy does not detect this type of extension.
If I change the extension to MKV, my raspberry plays only the audio but not the video.

¿Any ideas how can i fix this issue?

I'm going to explain it better. I've got plenty of video files with the extension .MOD (wikipedia), originated by my video camera, JVC EVERIO. Those files don't show in my raspberry openelec. I renamed them to .MKV and .MPG, and then, i can see them in the video section. I have realized dvdplayer can play those files, but with low quality. I search in internet and find out there is a player in xbmc for this kind of files (Modplayer), but i don't know how to integrate that player in openelec.

The XBMC MODPlayer plays the mod format that started in the Amiga days, which is only an audio format. So MODPlayer will not work for playing your JVC videos.

The JVC mod video format uses MPEG2 compression. The raspberry pi doesn't come with an MPEG2 license and is bought separately. http://www.raspberrypi.com/mpeg-2-license-key/

So, i think i have to buy a license.
