Audio Random Dropouts

I am running latest openelec on a Gigabyte E350

I am having an issue when running audio through my surround sound system i get random dropouts for about 1 second at a time on the audio the video keeps play just audio cuts out for some reason i have tried playing through my normal tv speakers and no issue only when running through surround sound (5.1 ch sony bluray player stereo combo)

I have it setup to send the audio using ARC HDMI port in back of TV i have two brand new HDMI 1.4 cables one from the HTPC to a regular HDMI port then another cable from the ARC hdmi port to the back of the surround sound system

i have left all audio as defaults and haven't touched anything because i have no idea what half of it does

No I have been playing 720p and 1080p videos when this happens i haven't tried a regular SD mp4 or xvid or anything but so far it happens with every movie i try to play drive me mad the other day trying to watch x-men i ended up turning off the system and just using the crappy built in tv speakers at least no cut outs

Do you have refresh rate switching turned on? You should if you don't
System --> Videos --> playback --> Adjust display refresh rate to match video

sorry for the late reply haven't had time to watch anything lately so haven't tested it fully until recently


I tried playing even standard xvid the other day and still get the same thing no matter what i am watching every couple minutes the sound cuts out for a second like there is a glitch in the video but there isn't i was using originally the latest beta but just in case i switched back to stable 4.0.7 and still have same issue

the HDMI cables are brand new i lost my old ones when i moved house they are HDMI 1.4 and have no problem getting video or sound it is just that i have this issue occasionally not sure why

I am thinking at least temporarily switch the HTPC back to windows or even XBMCBuntu and seeing if i have this issue at least then i will know it is hardware related

I tried the option you suggest above and it did not work same issue whether that is enabled or not it only seem to happen when playing sound through my surround sound system which is also fairly new

my mother has 4.0.7 installed on her old HP DC7800 i setup for her and she has no issues runs like a dream
and i have tested the machine i am having issues with just using the tv speakers and it either doesn't have the issue or i have not played enough video to notice it yet

Hi,

same problem here on Raspberry Pi Model B. OpenElec 4.0.7.

Random dropouts in HD an SD Videos over my AVR (Onkyo TXNR609) for about 1-2 seconds. The problem is, that the dropouts come randomly . There is no chance to reproduce them (jump back to the same Scene for example has no effect, the sound then is without dropouts). Also the AVR indicates that there is no Signal when the dropouts appear, 'cause the DTS or DOLBY DIGITAL indicator turns off when a dropout appears. They appear also on 2 Channel audio. My AVR indicates PL II Movie and when a dropout appears the indicator turns off.

So I think bitstream is interrupted in this cases.

I checked the logs but there is nothing really ominous in there.

CPU-Load was logged with

CPU load stays average at 40%(about 60% max.) during playback. So no hint here.

They doesn't appear as much as described by protocol77 "only" once or twice per movie. But in every movie randomly.

Sorry that I can't help but I hope my description can help to find a solution.

After updating to 4.2.0 the dropouts are still there but now I found something in the xbmc.log :

i have an onkyo 709... i have dropouts on rpi1 B and even odroid c1 with an unofficial port of openelec 5.0.1 installed...
do you still have the problem too? have you found a solution? i'm desperate because no solution is in sight and it doesn't seem like anyone cares about this annoying problem

edit: okay, looks good now with hdmi_clock thingy set to 40, adjust refresh rate to ON and sync video to refreshrate to OFF

1) i hope it really helps... but i warched two movies now and an episode of a series where i know it happens. (walking dead s05e09)
2) what do i do with my odroid c1 where there's no config.txt) but i guess that's a different story.

edit2: noooo, it's back... gonna try hdmi_clock whatever = 20 next time. i already considered buying a new AVR, but being killed by the GF sure isn't worth it.

edit: so, back from raspbmc to openelec 5.0.4 (freshinstall) and hdmi_clock...=20 -> seems to be perfect now, but we'll see... before adding it to config.txt it even lost signal permanently in the kodi GUI - only rebooting the RPI helped. GUI is now stable too.
