OpenELEC stuck on SYSLINUX after installing

Hello,
I'm new in HTPC world.
I'm trying to use my very old pc (I used it when I was a student...) as an HTPC installing OpenELEC.
This is my configuration:

Intel P4 2,4 GHz (Northwood)
Gygabyte Motherboard GA-8SR533P
2 GB RAM (1+512+512)
Nvdia FX-5500 AGP
250 GB HD
USB 2.0 and LAN on PCI card

I downloaded OpenELEC-Generic.i386-4.2.1, created an USB install disk using "create_installstick.bat" and started Quick Install enabling SSH too.
As my motherboard doesn't allow usb booting I used Plop Boot Manager.
All was OK...but when I rebooted it my pc hanged and the only thing that appeared on screen was SYSLINUX 6 EDD..

I've tried with OpenELEC-Generic.i386-3.2.4 too and now my pc stucks on SYSLINUX 5 EDD..

Using a Live CD (Xubuntu) I checked my HD and now there are two partitions, so I think installation was OK but I don't know what king of check could I do...please help

Here is your bigger problem. XBMC/Kodi needs a decent OpenGL capable video graphics card to function properly. I don't think that this one is going to cut. It also has no hardware acceleration capabilities

OpenELEC can do a lot, but it cannot revive devices from the dead.

So this video card is not ok.
Is there any AGP video card that I could use to run XBMC?
For example a Geforce 6600GT AGP 128Mb would be better?
Video card it's the only problem?

Follow the manual install instructions on the wiki and you should be able to get a functional OS .. the 304.xx nvidia driver that we use in the 32-bit image supports the card according to nvidia's website. No guarantees on performance with kit that old though; as seo said, the OpenGL performance is important.

your board is so old so your bios is likely to not able to boot from 1G+ usb stick. as one said already, OpenELEC cant revive dead hardware.

Thanks to all.
Yesterday I've tried another way: Xubuntu 12.04 + XBMC 13.2 and now it's OK. I'm able to play some DVD, I will try other features asap.
I'm using nvidia 173.x drivers (nvidia 304.x seems to be only for Quadro FX 5500, mine is simply GeForce FX 5500) and yes motherboard cannot boot from usb so I used Plop Boot Manager.
When I've installed OpenELEC I've used instructions reported into wiki (http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/HOW-TO...g_OpenELEC) but always it stuck on SYSLINUX and no errors were reported during installation phase.
I'd like to try OpenELEC but I know my machine is very old...;-)
