Is it possible to store .H264 mp4 videos in the local OpenELEC video folder?

Greetings,

I am new to using this software so please excuse my ignorance. I have set up OpenELEC on a Raspberry Pi 2 using version 5.05.

I'm trying to build a self-contained video player and am hoping I can store videos with-in the local video folder. Is this possible? If so how? Can I use lftp to transfer my videos into this folder? I have heard that lftp is located in the unofficial OpenELEC Add-ons area but I can't seem to find anything in this area when I go there. What's up with this? I believe I read somewhere that this is where lftp is located.

Also could someone point me to information on how to build a playlist that I can loop?

Yes you can store videos I the local video folder. You will of course be limited by your sd card size.

Use scp or winscp or smb for transfer, the protocols are built in.

Again, thanks for your consideration in helping a newbie! Specifically where do I find these tools? Or better still, please point me to documentation as I do not mind helping myself here I just need to locate the appropriate documentation. I love this software!

PS I have been digging in the Wiki area for a while now and all I need to find out are the specific steps to copy a video file into the local (OpenELEC) video folder (or where ever it should go) so that I can have a self-contained video player that will play the files I copy into this area back even without any Internet access. I'm sure this is a forehead slapper but again I am brand new to this stuff. HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED!

You can just use the SMB shares included with OpenELEC.

OK yes, I can access my system using this IP address. I have also installed the "Chorus" UI. Once I get in here I cannot figure out how to copy a video from my local (Win7 64bit) computer into OpenELEC. I have tried clicking everything I can find but I still cannot figure this out. I have read the section you pointed me to several times.

I have also tried just dragging and dropping a video into this window and when I do it starts playing back but I don't think it is actually transferring it in. Thank you for trying to help. I think I am close but not quite there yet.

PS I have been able to go in and "Add" a video location on a shared folder and I can play back this video just fine. What I need to know how to do is to "MOVE" this video into the local "OpenELEC" video folder. Can't for the life of me figure out how to move these files into this folder. Would it be easier for me to try to do this from a Linux command prompt? What about lftp?

Maybe an easier question .... OK I have plugged in a USB drive into my Raspberry Pi2 and have and can play back video files from this USB drive. Can anyone show or explain to me me how to copy video files from here to my local openelec "videos" folder?

Although I can see this device in OpenELEC when I SSH in I cannot figure out how to navigate to this USB device "fdisk" does not work. Help greatly appreciated I really feel stuck here! :unsure:

Like I said, use the SMB shares to move files to your OpenELEC system over the network. Read the documentation.

Then if you need to move files around that are on OpenELEC (or on a hard drive that is plugged in), you can use the file manager.

Wow, like I said I figured this would be a forehead slapper. I can't believe I missed the file manager. Thank you for pointing this out and for your patience. I believe this will give me all the tools I will need to make this work.

I would like to read more about using the MB shares. Would you mind providing me with a link to this documentation as it relates to my file moving question. Again, thank you for helping me out!

Once you access the shares it's as simple as copy and paste into the folder.
