GUI is unsmooth / stutters after exiting a video.

Hello Everyone!

I upgrade to OpenELEC 6.0 from Version 5.0.8 and I am experiencing a weird phenomenon.

When starting OE, the GUI runs extremely smooth and doesn't jerk at all (refresh set to 50 Hz). However: After playing a video (e.g. with 23.976 / 24 FPS; the display refresh rate changes automatically to match the video file) and then returning to the GUI (main menu, etc.), the menu animation is no longer smooth but has a some jerkiness / stuttering to it. I then check the refresh rate, and it is set correctly to 50 Hz. :blink: This problem was not there with OE 5.0.8.

What could be causing this? How can I fix this problem?

Ive brought this issue up many times and provided logs, but heard nothing back from the developers.

The GUI goes down to 25fps when 50hz live tv is playing also. Shame, since it makes our highend htpcs feel slow and underpowered.

And yes your correct, this wasn't a problem on 5.0.8.

This is my impression as well, i.e. it's a bug and not a settings problem.

When did you report it? More importantly, where did you report it? Maybe I can help bringing this to their attention.

It was reported on the beta posts by myself a number of times and another thread (or two) I'll try and find the threads for you now.

One of the Openelec moderators seems to think this is related to Kodi, and he told me to report it to the Kodi devs. But the thing is this bug does not exist on Kodi 15.x running Windows, Mac OSX, or Ubuntu, it's clearly only on the Openelec 6.0 platform.

The impression I'm getting since no developer has spoken upon this issue is: they simply do not care about this bug, I guess it's because their main focus is probably low powered devices which may not be able to achieve 50fps.

So you come to us for advice, we give advice, you ignore advice, then you multiple post unhappiness with the advice (which doesn't endear you to the forum moderator team, although that's an aside). Did you put the question to Kodi devs yet? .. because even if the experience is different on OE when compared to other OS it is still their code that cannot work properly on our OS base and they are still the correct people to look at the problem. Or you can keep not following advice and then you're right - we tend to ignore people who refuse to be helped.

After many tests it turns out this issue is quite possibly related to the Intel driver used ever since Openelec 5.9.x.

It would at least be nice for a offical reply from a OE dev to say yes we know and are looking for a fix, or simply we do not care.

Ps, @chewitt, what advice did you give me exactly and how did you try and help? All you said was go and speak to the Kodi devs - you or no other OE developers even took the time to look into this. The only person who has tried debugging this with me is fritsch the Kodi dev. As it turns out this bug is related to a different Intel driver which you guys have used since Openelec 6.

I guess this is the end of Openelec on highend Intel hardware, as none of your devs seem willing to look into this, or even acknowledge what I'm saying / participate with the conversation on the Kodi forum.
