Kodi Wireless will not connect

Hey guys,

I got a raspberry pi 2 for christmas OpenELEC fully installed on it, wireless usb and dongle and mouse in the usb ports and i am running kodi on my TV.
I was round my friends earlier using Kodi on a wireless connection and it was running absolutely fine.

I get back to mine set it all up go to connections and try find my wireless connection go to type in the password for the wireless and it just goes from idle > configuring > after 1 or 2 minutes it proceeds to say failure. Everything else within my room is set up on wireless so I know it works and have tried connecting many times now but nothing happens apart from not being able to find the network every now and again i reset the device and it comes back up but persists with the problem.

My ethernet cable does work on there but i want it to be a wireless connection and its driving me crazy. i've also got a Belkin wireless connection booster in my room right next to the Pi but nothing

Similar with me.
RPi sees a lot of wifi networks, but if I try to connect to mine and ente the passphrase, nothing happens.
Only way to connect is an open wifi connection with no encryption at all.
Are there any special 'forbidden characters' for the passphrase?

I've found a hint somewhere that one has to 'escape' some 'strange' characters using a backslash character before. So instead of a '#' inside a passphrase one hs to use '#'. But this did not help in my case - a '@' seems not to be strange enough.
What I found was I had to press the right arrow button '>' after creation of the passphrase and before presing the 'Done' key. Now I'm connected
BTW, the status message of unused WLANs is 'Idle', that one of connected is showing an asterix '*'.
