External usb hd freezes during playback

Hi all,

Since i`ve updated to Openelec 6, the playback of videos from external usb 3 HD freezes several times during the playback.
I`ve tried to enable Quirks mode like described in here, http://openelec.tv/forum/65-storage/7914...as-problem
but that doesn`t solved it.

I`m using chromebox with Transcend external HD.
Can someone solved something similar?

May I suggest you try and report on the following:

1. HDD behavior when connected to a Windows machine
2. HDD behavior when connected to via a USB 2.0 cable
3. HDSentinel (just use the free edition) health report on HDD

1. The HDD is working perfectly on Windows & worked OK on openelec 5.0.8.
2. I dont have cable that suits for this HDD.
3. Checked, and its OK.

I have a chromebox with external HDD USB 3.0 what format is your external ntfs, ext3/4 etc? Also what temperature is your chromebox? The only time Ive seen anything like this with a chromebox is when the vents were blocked with dust. It wasnt just the HDD which failed, all USB devices started to fail. Quick clean and all good again.

It was formatted with NTFS, then i assumed that the drive format is the reason, and one of my tries were to reformat to Ex4, it not helped.
How can i check the temperature of the device?
I will check the fans.

Info screen within kodi should give you the temp. Have you tried a different USB port? Also does the HDD have some type of onboard management like idle time, keep device alive etc? On my chromebox the air duct next to the fan was pretty much blocked up solid. But be carefull on the underside of the motherboard is a plug for the power button, its quiet hard to get back in.

I have check the temperature and its fine.
I have checked also the air duct, and its clean.

The problem is for sure with the softwere, cause i1ve installed again Openelec 5.0.8, and the video palyback is ok.

But, i wanna the new Openelec & kodi.
