For some days now I've been partitioning, formatting unzipping, sudo dd (ing) various OpenELEC downloads. I started with 8.0.0. on a first generation RPi (512K model). The instructions on how to do that: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/HOW-TO...Disk_Image work, as the commands are for .img files. These instructions don't work with http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/HOW-TO...Disk_Image as the file ends in .tar
After a week of trying to figure all this out, I'm asking for help. I cannot explain how strange it is to install 8.0.0 (SD card) and have Kodi Krypton 17.1 come on-screen and then have no way to update the OpenELEC, even though their is an on-screen popup that says OpenELEC Update available.
Untarring the [Stable] OpenELEC 8.0.3 (arm) Update file and ls(ing) the folder or directory shows:
mark@Lexington:~/kodi/OpenELEC-RPi.arm-8.0.3$ ls
3rdparty CHANGELOG licenses README.md RELEASE target
but I'm stuck. There is no info on what to install and I wonder why.
